Why should I do it:

  • Some students require the need for outside stimulus to help them maintain focus

When should I do it:

  • When a student has difficulty staying in seat, is overly fidgety, hyperactive, always grabbing and playing with objects around them, chewing on pencils and pens a lot, etc

How do I do it:

  • You can purchase sticky Velcro and place just one side of it either on top of the desk or under the desk to allow them to stimulate senses while they are working and without disturbing the class
  • Speak with the student in private and explain the intervention to them and how they are to use the Velcro
  • Ask the student where they may best like the Velcro placed and try having them sit at their seat and think about where they would want it, maybe trying it out in several places then sticking it down to the spot chosen
