The PBIS World Book is now out and available on PBISWorld.com! This cool book is the print version of what you see on PBISWorld.com. It’s broken up into 3 tiers along with a data collection page that lists resources to get forms, surveys, and other tracking tools.
At the tier 1 level, both PBISWorld.com and The PBIS World Book have the information broken into two main sections, a section where you can search by behavior and get suggested Tier 1 interventions for that specific behavior, and then a section that lists all tier 1 interventions, of which there are about 90 so far. Tier 1 is designed and set up on PBISWorld.com and the The PBIS World Book to be user friendly for teachers and general staff to navigate, make decisions, and implement interventions.
At the tier 2 and tier 3 levels, interventions are listed without any suggestions about specific behaviors they could be used for. At these more intensive levels of intervention, there are more individual and specific factors to consider, so it isn’t as practical to generically suggest interventions for specific issues. The Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels of the website and book are set up more for a behavior team led by a Behavior Specialist, School Counselor, or School Social Worker, where the Behavior Specialist, Counselor, or SSW make crucial decisions as to what the specific behavioral issue(s) is that needs to be addressed (think FBA or functional behavior assessment). Once they narrow down what specific behavior and issue needs to be addressed, they can draw from the Tier 2 or Tier 3 pool of interventions from the book, deciding and directing the other team members as to which intervention in the book to utilize in addressing the specific behavior.
This 3 tiered model of increasingly intensive interventions for increasingly severe behaviors is the general model that most PBIS programs follow, and therefore PBISWorld.com and The PBIS World Book will fit in and suit most PBIS schools and other facilities or groups perfectly. The PBIS World Book makes it easier than ever now to get behavior intervention ideas and specific instructions and resources into the hands of those carrying them out. The book is great for behavior meetings and interacting with parents. Parents like the ability to hold a sheet of paper outlining exactly what the school, group, or facility is doing. With The PBIS World Book, you can print up a couple interventions you are using with a student and take them to behavior meetings to share with parents and other staff. It’s a great tool and resource to add to your PBIS repertoire.
